Duck Dynasty can teach us

What Duck Dynasty can teach us about “Christian Media”

Imagine for a moment you are a fly, kicking it on the wall, in a fancy board room. The year is 2011. You are in the offices of A&E,
Scott Gurney a former Gay porn star walks in, and says “Let’s take some redneck, Bible loving, God quoting, gun toting millionaires from Louisiana, and make a reality show exposing the ignorance of the Bible belt.”
The board loves it. A few jokes about republican Christians come up, the board laughs, another about hunting ducks come up. The timing is perfect. Obama will be reelected. Let’s throw some salt in the wound...Read more

L’affaire Robertson

Unaccustomed as I am to writing about current events as they unfold, I can only suggest a few takeaway lessons from the l’affaire Robertson, as he might put it. As I have been able to reconstruct the events, A&E put Phil Robertson on hiatus from the reality show Duck Dynasty for making disparaging comments about homosexuality in GQ magazine. The memorable words of T.S. The same thing has happened in the aftermath of Robertson’s comments. He said what he did, A&E suspended him for it, and more than a million regular folks have signed on to a “Stand With Phil” website. And, here comes the point of this post, Christian sophisticates are critical of . . . you guessed it! But this reminds me of something that D.L. Moody once said — “I like my way of doing it better than your way of not doing it.”....Read article

The Genuine Conflict Being Ignored in the Duck Dynasty Debate

An evangelical Christian points out that there is, in fact, a tension between orthodox Christianity and homosexuality. Saying otherwise robs American society of an honest debate about how to reconcile sexual tolerance with religious tolerance...Read more
